Cleonas
Ag. Vasileios · Kleonai · Άγιος Βασίλειος · Κλεωναί
Cleonas is Cleonae, near Agios Vasileios in Greece, a small town on the road from Corinth to Argos that Homer called well-built, set on a hill walled all round. Close by lay Nemea, where Heracles was said to have killed the lion, and ancient scholars even derived the town's name from the Greek word for lion. The Roman philosopher Seneca reports something he found hard to believe: Cleonae kept public watchmen whose task was to look out for coming hail. Pausanias saw a statue of Athena here by two pupils of Daedalus.
