Cissi Municipio

settlement and mine on Cap Djinet (Barrington) · Ruinen bei Mers el Djennad (Miller)

Cissi carries the title municipium, a self-governing town under Roman law, on the coast of Mauretania Caesariensis in what is now Algeria. The settlement, which had a mine, lay on Cap Djinet, with ruins near Mers el Djennad. Ptolemy lists it as Kisse, the Roman register of routes and the Ravenna list as Cisi, and a bishop of the town is named in 482. The map puts it twenty-two Roman miles, about thirty-three kilometres, from Rusibricari Matidiae, and twelve from an unnamed stop beyond.
