Listen to the story
Antandros lay on the Troad coast at the foot of Mount Ida, just east of Altınoluk in Turkey. The Tabula gives it the usual pair of towers, drawn a little smaller, as for every town along this stretch of coast, and it keeps the Greek form of the name. The forests of Ida made the town wealthy through shipbuilding timber, and the Roman poet Virgil has Aeneas build his fleet right beside it. The Greek geographer Strabo placed above it the mountain where Paris is said to have judged the goddesses. In late antiquity it was the seat of a bishop.
