Antiochia Pisidia

bei Yalvaç

Listen to the story

Antiochia Pisidia, the Antioch of Pisidia, stood on a hill in a fertile plain near Yalvaç in Turkey, right on the border between Phrygia and Pisidia, so ancient writers counted it now to one region, now to the other. Founded by the Seleucid kings in the third century BC, it was made a Roman colony under Augustus with the name Caesarea. The apostle Paul visited the city, fragments of a copy of Augustus's own account of his deeds were found among its ruins, and in late antiquity it was the capital of the province of Pisidia, until Arab conquest in 713.
