Atribi
Kom-el-Atrîb bei Benha (Miller) · Tell Atrib (Barrington)
Two readings compete for Atribi, a name set on an island in the Delta with no road: it may stand for Athribis, the town at Tell Atrib near Benha, or for the whole district around it, the tenth nome of Lower Egypt, whose coins under Trajan and Hadrian carried its name. Herodotus already knew the town. In the ninth to seventh centuries BC it formed an independent principality with Heliopolis, the Saite king Amasis built here, and it flourished under the Ptolemies and again in the second century AD.
