Pronetios
? nahe Karamürsel
Pronetios is Prainetos, a harbour on the south shore of the Gulf of Nicomedia near today's Karamürsel, named after the Bithynian god Prietos, who had a temple here. Pliny tells of the nearby river whose waters perjurers could not bear, as if they burned. The map draws it with a storehouse picture and turns both its name and its road towards Constantinople across the water, for this was the landing place for travellers from the capital. In 403 the deposed bishop John Chrysostom got only this far on his way into exile before he was called back.
