Hostizo

Havsa?

Hostizo, at or near today's Havsa, appears in the route lists as Ostodizo; the first part may come from a personal name. Probably after Constantine's victory over Licinius at Adrianople in 324, the place was renamed Nike, Victory, and Hilary records that Nicaea was formerly called Ustodizo. In 359 a synod here drew up a creed that was confusingly called Nicene, like the famous one. Before the battle of 378 the emperor Valens halted at the station, and later the Goths did too. From here roads branched off to Ut Surgas and Ancialis.
