Histriopoli

Istria

Histriopoli is Histria, the old Greek city of Istros on the Black Sea coast, whose ruins lie at Karanasuf, today Istria in Romania; the Roman general Lucullus took it in his war in these lands. The map gives forty miles, about fifty-nine kilometres, on to Tomis, where the Roman register of routes has thirty-six and the Greek geographers between two hundred and fifty and three hundred stadia. A milestone of 134 found near Constanța counts twenty-seven miles from Tomis.
