Heracome

near Kızılkaya, Samosata area (Turkey)

Heracome stood on a road leading towards Samosata, and its remains are sought near Kızılkaya in south-eastern Turkey. The map marks it with a small drawing of two towers, the sign it gives to settlements of some standing, so travellers could expect more here than a bare roadside halt. The station lies seven Roman miles from Cesum. Beyond it the road runs on to Samosata with no distance at all, and scholars suspect that a longer stretch, perhaps through further stations, was lost in copying.
