Horrea margi

Ćuprija

Horrea Margi, the granaries on the Margus, the river Morava, is Ćuprija in Serbia. The pilgrim from Bordeaux notes here the border between Moesia and Dacia, and a late Roman list names a state shield factory at Horreum Margi. An inscription of 224 calls the place a municipium of Upper Moesia. Older research saw the remains of a Roman bridge over the Morava and massive ancient walls. The Greek geographer Ptolemy already knew the place simply as Orrea, the granaries.
