Ad ficum

(near Buerat el-Hsun) (Barrington)

Listen to the story

At Ad Ficum the two roads that split at Dissio Aqua Amara come together again: thirty-five Roman miles from Chosol on one branch, twenty-five from Musula on the other. Eighteen more lead on to Praetorium. The name means at the fig tree, and it occurs twice, for another Ad Ficum lies in Mauretania. This one stood on the Great Syrtis near Buerat el-Hsun in Libya, and the Ravenna list, which simply writes Ficum, places it by the sea.
