Ad Enum

Pfaffenhofen am Inn (Barrington) · Dorf Pfünzen (Miller)

Listen to the story

Ad Enum means at the Inn, and the name is the map's hint of the river, which it does not draw although the Inn was a border between provinces. The station, which other sources call Pons Aeni, the Inn bridge, lay at Pfaffenhofen near Rosenheim, where the road from Salzburg to Augsburg crossed the road from the Brenner to Regensburg. It grew into a centre of pottery making, and a shrine of Mithras was found here in 1977; the name lives on in the villages of Langenpfunzen and Leonhardspfunzen.
