Taricea
Mellafah, Gebel Melfa (Miller) · Bir Bu Retma (Barrington)
Taricea is written in capitals out in the open sea, although it was evidently a place on land, and no road leads to it; it is curious that the mapmaker was so keen to include it at all. The name points to fish salting: a place whose people pickled fish, or had large works for it. Apart from this map, only an ancient Greek guide to the coasts names it. Its site is placed at Bir Bu Retma in Libya; older research looked for it by the great salt lake at Mellafa.
