Taparura
Sfax
Taparura is Sfax in Tunisia, the Taphroura of the geographer Ptolemy. A long vertical tear runs through the parchment here and has damaged one letter of the name, yet the reading is not in doubt. A bishop of Taparura is recorded in 411, and the city has yielded splendid ruins and a whole series of Latin inscriptions. Twenty Roman miles, about thirty kilometres, further on comes the next stop, usually taken to be Thenas.
