Macomades Minores
Bordj Younga (Barrington) · Oum-el-Bouagh (Stückelberger)
Macomades Minores, the lesser Macomades, is not to be confused with another Macomades between Theveste and Cirta in Numidia. It lay on the coast of Tunisia, at Bordj Younga, a harbour town whose name suggests a Phoenician origin. Pliny calls it a free town, the Roman register of routes a municipium, and a Greek guide to the coast knows it as Nea Polis, the new city. A bishop is recorded here in 411, and a late Roman list of offices names a commander of the Macomades frontier district.
