Usilla Municipium
Henchir-Inchilla
Usilla Municipium, a self-governing Roman town, lay near the coast at Henchir Inchilla in Tunisia, three hours from Sfax. Pliny calls it a town with Latin rights, the only one in the province of Africa. Its ruins are substantial: a basilica with five aisles, later a mosque, and traces of a harbour mole. Bishops sat here from 349 to 641. The map gives six Roman miles from Ruspe, but the real distance is about twenty-three, some thirty-four kilometres.
