Listen to the story
Vthica on the map should read Uthina, now Oudna in Tunisia; the copyist turned it into the far more famous Utica. Uthina was probably a Libyan town, where Caesar or Augustus settled veterans of the Thirteenth Legion, and its ruins include a triumphal arch, temples, a theatre, baths and an amphitheatre. It may be Adys, where Roman and Carthaginian armies first met on African soil in 256 BC.
