Sassura Vicus
Henchir-el-Ksour
Sassura Vicus entered history in 46 BC, when Caesar attacked the Pompeians under Caecilius and King Juba here and captured the place, which the account of his African war calls the town of Sarsura. The site is Henchir el-Ksour in Tunisia, twelve Roman miles from Thysdrus, now El Djem, and the geographer Ptolemy knew it as Sasoura. From the time of Diocletian it belonged to the province of Byzacena.
