Road station

Sarute

Strojice

Sarute, a name known only from this map, was a station on the road from Salona to Servitium, probably at Strojice in Bosnia. Older editors misread it as Saritte, and research has tried to match it with other names: Seretium, a stronghold taken by Germanicus according to the Greek historian Cassius Dio, or the Sapuates, whose boundary a Roman centurion was sent to settle, or Sarnade in a Roman register of routes. None is certain. A milestone found in the area counts sixty-five Roman miles, about ninety-six kilometres, from Salona.
