Road station
Scamnum
Muro Tenente [Pleiades]
Listen to the story
Scamnum, which the Roman writer Pliny also names, was a station on the road from Tarentum to Brundisium, perhaps at Muro Tenente or at Latiano. The list of places compiled in Ravenna writes Samnum, and the Lombard historian Paul the Deacon speaks of a Samnium worn away by age, which may be the same place. Two milestones of the emperor Constantine have been found on this road at nearby Mesagne.
