Scarbia

Scharnitz-Mittenwald

Listen to the story

Scarbia guarded the Scharnitz pass between Mittenwald in Bavaria and Tyrol, where remains of old walls are said to show that the Romans already fortified it. The map puts it eleven Roman miles from Partenkirchen and nineteen from Vetonina; from there the road climbed over the Seefeld saddle and down to Zirl in the Inn valley.
