Sullecti

Salakta

Sullecti, now Salakta on the Tunisian coast, is probably where the Tower of Hannibal stood, a fortified castle from which, as the historians Livy and Justin tell, Hannibal took ship to flee to King Antiochus. Later it was a bishop's town of the province of Byzacena, with bishops recorded in 394 and 484, and the historian Procopius knew it as Syllektion. Ruins of an old fort remain. A road branched off here to Thysdrus; the map gives fifteen miles, though seventeen would be right.
