Sure
Sure lay where the Euphrates, in the words of the Roman writer Pliny, turns from its southward course towards the east. It was the garrison of the Sixteenth Legion, Flavia Firma; the Persian king Chosroes destroyed the town and the emperor Justinian restored it, as the historian Procopius relates. Its ruins are usually called el Hammam. The map counts twenty-one Roman miles, about thirty-one kilometres, from Risapa.
