Oruba

Tayibe

Oruba, at Tayibe in the Syrian steppe, was a garrison post: a late Roman register of offices and troops calls it Oresa and stations the Fourth Scythian Legion there. The geographer Ptolemy writes Oriza, and the Arabs knew the place as Ord. The map counts twenty-two Roman miles on both sides, from Harae and on to Cholle, but on the way to Cholle a station seems to have dropped out, perhaps Adada, at Sukhne.
