Occaraba

´Agerbat (Barrington)

Occaraba, at Agerbat in Syria, was known to Ptolemy as Akoraba. A late Roman list of commands stations a cavalry unit from Illyricum there under the commander of Syria, and the acts of a church council name a bishop of the town. Older research looked for it in the Djebel Bil'as, where a ruined site called Okarib is reported. The map counts twenty-eight Roman miles from Theleda and twenty-seven on to Centum Putea.
