Obba
Ebba
Obba, the Abba of the Greek historian Polybius, lay at Ebba in Tunisia, in the Roman province of Africa. Here, in 203 BC, the Numidian king Syphax took refuge after Laelius and Masinissa had set fire to his camp near Utica. A bishop of Obba is recorded in 411, and Roman milestones stand nearby. The map sets Obba sixteen Roman miles, about twenty-four kilometres, from Althiburos, where older research expected six, and seven from Larabus.
