Ocrocenaurio

near Llogara Pass [Barrington]

Ocrocenaurio is a garbled Acroceraunio, the station where the road from Aulon climbed over the Ceraunian mountains near the Llogara Pass in Albania, six hundred and seven metres high. The name comes from the cape of Acroceraunia, the mountains' tip reaching into the sea, which the map oddly draws as an island. The map's forty-one miles, about sixty kilometres, on to Phoenice agree with a Roman register of routes, but the real way is some eighty-seven kilometres; perhaps both copied a sixty-one written the wrong way round.
