Road station
Opiae
Oberdorf bei Bopfingen
Opiae was a station at Oberdorf near Bopfingen in Germany, below the Ipf, a hill that had been a fortified Celtic town long before the Romans came, and whose name may still echo the ancient one. The station lay eighteen Roman miles from Aquileia and seven from Septemiacum. On the map the final e carries a tiny stroke beneath it, the scribes' old way of writing ae, which is why the name is read with the ending ae.
