Praesidi Diolele

H. Soma

Praesidi Diolele takes its name from a praesidium, a military post, and lies at the ruins of Soma on the northern slope of the Djebel Dur in Tunisia, near Metlaoui, a centre of phosphate mining. The map puts it twenty Roman miles, about thirty kilometres, from Capsa and eighteen from Ad Praetorium, though the copyist could easily have lined up this name and its figure, and the next pair too, more neatly with the road. The Ravenna list calls the place Presidin.
