Potentia

Potenza

Listen to the story

Potentia, the power, is Potenza, today the capital of Basilicata, a Lucanian town that the Roman writer Pliny lists by its people, the Potentini, and that the Greek geographer Ptolemy also names. A Roman register of routes shows a second road leading from here to Grumentum. The map sets Potentia twelve Roman miles from Lucos and fifteen from Anxia.
