Road station
Octacuscum
Besni, Adıyaman
Octacuscum, a station in Cappadocia, stood where two roads met: the road from Comana to Samosata, which the map follows, crossed here the road from Germanicia to Melitene. It is placed at Besni in the Turkish province of Adıyaman, where the remains of a medieval citadel crown a height above a mountain gorge; older research also considered Altyn Köprü. The name is known only from this map and, garbled into Scasuson, from the Ravenna list, which drew on the same source map. The figure four to the next station probably counts Persian parasangs rather than Roman miles.
