Epifania
Hama
Epifania lies on the Orontes at Hama in Syria, the city the Old Testament calls Hamath the great, centre of a mighty kingdom. The Hittite realm reached this far in the 14th century BC, and Hittite inscriptions have been found here; in 720 BC the Assyrians under Sargon took the city. Its Greek name probably honours Antiochus the Fourth Epiphanes, yet the old name lived on beside it and returned after the Arab conquest. On the map the road line strays into a river here, because names and figures crowd so close to it.
