Sulci

Tortoli (Barrington) · Isola di S. Antioco (Sulci) (Miller)

Sulci is usually taken to be the old harbour town on the island of Sant'Antioco off Sardinia, founded by the Carthaginians, though a modern atlas points to Tortolì instead. Under Rome it became a municipium and later a bishop's see, until the see was moved to Iglesias. On the map the name stands on its own, without a road. The Roman register of routes gives thirty-four Roman miles from here to Tegula, at Capo Teulada, where the real distance is nearer twenty, and thirty-five on to Nura, where it is about twenty-five.
