Road station
Succosa

Listen to the story
Succosa means below Cosa: it was the station at the foot of the hill that carries the ruins of the Roman colony of Cosa, near Ansedonia, where a road from inland Saturnia met the Via Aurelia. On the map the two places are joined by a puzzling sign often read as co, which may be a copyist's misunderstood mark for one mile. Great country estates lay all around, among them the villa of Settefinestre.
