Road station

Subromula

Guardia Lombardi [4] · westl. v. Bisaccia [Pleiades]

Listen to the story

Subromula means below Romulea: the station on the Via Appia lay at the foot of the Samnite hill town of Romulea, on the height of La Toppa near Bisaccia, which Roman troops stormed and plundered in 296 BC, as the historian Livy reports. The station itself stood near Guardia Lombardi. The list of places compiled in Ravenna swaps two syllables and writes the name as Submurula.
