Bararus Municipium
Henchir-Rougga
Bararus Municipium carries its rank in its name: a municipium was a self-governing town with Roman rights. Its ruins at Henchir Rougga in Tunisia include a theatre, a triumphal arch and extensive cisterns, and later a bishop of the town sat among the bishops of the province of Byzacena. It lay nine Roman miles from Thysdrus, El Djem, on the road to Usilla; the map gives no figure for that stretch, but the Roman register of routes counts thirty-two miles. Part of the name is written in capital letters.
