Aviduvicus

Zramdine

Aviduvicus lay at Zramdine in Tunisia, on the road between Hadrumetum, now Sousse, and Thysdrus. The geographer Ptolemy calls it simply Avidus; the map adds vicus, the Latin word for a village, and runs the two words together. Twenty-five Roman miles separate it from Hadrumetum, a figure the Roman register of routes gives as well, and the map counts nine more on to Sassura Vicus.
