Axunam
Aime (Barrington) · Ayme en Tarentaise (Miller)
Axunam is Aime in the Tarentaise, the Axima that the Greek geographer Ptolemy names as the chief town of the Ceutrones; a modern atlas equates it with Forum Claudii Ceutronum. Its name comes from a sacred spring venerated as Aximus. Many inscriptions have been found in the town. The map's own reading is in doubt: some readers of the parchment see Aximam, and the form Axunam may be a misreading. The list of places compiled in Ravenna garbles it as Amimam, and the map's figures on both sides agree with the Roman register of routes.
