Road station
Bergintrum
Bourg-St-Maurice
Bergintrum is Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the last station in the Tarentaise before the road climbed to the pass of the Little Saint Bernard, on the great route from Milan to Vienne. The Roman register of routes knows it under the same name, and the list of places compiled in Ravenna probably garbles it as Breniton. Inscriptions found there include a dedication to Hercules and one naming the Ceutrones, the people of the valley. Older research found the map's figures over the pass closer to the real distance than those of the register.
