Listen to the story
Bergomum, now Bergamo at the foot of the Alps, was an old Celtic town and a centre of the Golasecca culture as early as the sixth century BC; the Roman statesman Cato the Elder counted it among the foundations of the Orobii. Copper mines nearby made it prosperous, and in 452 AD Attila took and sacked it. On the map no distance is given for the road from Como.
