Bereo

Piatra Frecăţei

Bereo, called Biroe in the Roman register of routes, was a Danube fort in the Dobruja, today Piatra Frecăței in Romania, south of Troesmis. A late Roman list of garrisons calls it a castle and names a cavalry unit stationed there. The map gives twenty-five miles from Carsio and twenty-one on to Troesmis, where the register has eighteen. Older research placed it near Doiani and reported ruins south of Ostrov.
