Macomada Selorum
Sirte, Marsa Zaafran (Barrington)
Macomada Selorum had to be squeezed into so tight a space that much of the name runs across a river, and, unusually, its last letters and the distance figure sit below the road line. Macomades means new city, and the Roman register of routes calls it Macomades of the Syrtis. It lay at Marsa Zaafran near Sirte in Libya and is said to be the same place as the tower of Euphranta named by Ptolemy, which for a time marked the border between Carthaginians and Cyreneans. Older copies of the map lost the second word and the figure altogether.
