Opiros

(bei Eski Port) (Miller) · Bir en-Naim? (Barrington)

Opiros floats in the sea rather than on a road, which suggests a harbour; perhaps the word Port dropped out in copying. Today only an O, a gap and the letters RO can be made out, and where an S was once read at the end there is just a crack in the parchment; the early printed copies still had Opiros. It is most likely Ptolemy's village of Oisporis and the Eperos of an ancient Greek coastal guide, with a small harbour and a fort built by the local people, near Bir en-Naim in Libya.
