Road station
Tamonti
etwa bei Minia
Tamonti lies across the road line on the map, with its first two letters to the left of the route and the rest to the right. It may be Takona, a village a day's journey from Oxyrhynchus, which would mean the map has swapped the two places. Takona is one of the names met most often in the papyri from Oxyrhynchus, a hundred and eighty-five documents in all. In the 4th century it served as a mansio, an overnight station for couriers of the imperial post, and later documents show monks and churches there.
