Acori
Ruinen Beni Hassan el Achraf (Miller) · Tehna el-Gebel (Barrington)
Acori is Akoris, a town on the east bank of the Nile at today's Tehna el-Gebel in Middle Egypt. Its older name was Tenis; around 141 BC its harbour was renamed Akoris, and some papyri call it the City of Crocodiles. A garrison lay here from the 3rd century BC, and the town played an important part in crushing the revolt against Ptolemaic rule between 206 and 186 BC. Rock-cut tombs of officials go back to the Old Kingdom, and Ramesses the Second and the Third built a temple of Amun. The map gives ninety miles on to Telmi, a figure clearly legible but perhaps not what the mapmaker meant.
