Acitodonum

Ahun

Listen to the story

Acitodonum is Ahun, a town of the Lemovices on the road from Lyon and Clermont to Limoges. The name survived: in the tenth century it appears as Agidunum, from which the modern Ahun is not far removed. Nearly all geographers have accepted the identification; only one older scholar looked instead to Aubusson. Roman antiquities and inscriptions have been found in the surrounding country. On the map it lies between Pretorio and the boundary station of Fines.
