People
Cambiovicenses
Listen to the story
The Cambiovicenses were a people of Aquitania in Gaul, and the Tabula is the only ancient source that names them directly. The name probably derives from a settlement called Cambovicus, understood as the curved village. Where they lived remains uncertain. Perhaps it was the area of Chambon in the French Creuse, between Guéret and Montluçon, and perhaps they were the same people as the Cambolectri of Aquitania, known from the Roman writer Pliny. Scholars themselves have called all of this very doubtful.
