Brusdorciani

Odrusae Dorciani

Listen to the story

Brusdorciani, a people found in no other source, lived in Thrace along the river Hebros, the modern Maritsa, near Adrianople. The name may be a copyist's garbling of Odrusae Dorciani: the Odrysians were a powerful Thracian tribe on the banks of the Hebros, and the Dorciani would then be one of their branches. If the second part should read Borciani, it might recall the divine hero Borkethias, known from an inscription, or Borkia, a place at a crossing of the Hebros near Adrianople. The area may match Drosike, a Thracian military district listed by the geographer Ptolemy.
