Ubriuum

Olby?

Ubriuum is only a guess at this name: its middle has been lost to a small tear and a crease in the parchment, damage so old that even the earliest printed reading could make nothing of it. One older suggestion, Ulbium, is impossible, because the second letter is clearly a b. That guess was prompted by the village of Olby in the Puy-de-Dôme, where the station is often placed; others prefer Pontgibaud, named after its bridge over the Sioule, where silver-bearing lead was mined in antiquity.
