Road station

Turribus

Pirot

Turribus is drawn with a flourish after the b standing for the ending us, a scribe's shortcut. The station, Turres, the towers, lay near Pirot in Serbia on the military road towards Serdica, and it is one of several places so named on the map. Beyond it the map seems to have dropped a station: the pilgrim from Bordeaux changes horses twice before Meldia and counts thirty-one miles where the map gives twenty-four. Greek milestones set up by the city of Pautalia have been found along this stretch.
